I want to send a thank you to all the brothers who assisted in this our 6th Annual Backpack Drive. Between the Parish being so generous and the efforts by the brothers of our Council, we are able to supply 8 schools plus the Special Needs Department at Haverhill High School with backpacks full of supplies as well as additional boxes of supplies for the upcoming school year. A special thanks to all the wives who joined us this year. With their assistance we were able to fill 177 packs in record time.
This is perhaps our most visible event of the year and once again the council stepped up in a big way. Thank you all for all that you do. This particular event makes a huge impact on the parish and community, and is a testament to the work you all do.
Thank you,
Michael Scanlon,
Grand Knight, Christ the King Council

Council 5004 is holding our 6th annual backpack school supplies Drive
Council 5004 has purchased 175 backpacks to be filled with school supplies for children in Bradford and Groveland, MA in grades K-2 whose families may not be able to afford the needed supplies. During the weeks of August 4th through 18th, 2019 parishioners of Sacred Hearts Parish, including Sacred Hearts Church in Bradford, and Saint Patrick's Church in Groveland are asked to take tags from giving trees on which the various needed school supplies are listed. Parishioners are asked to purchase the listed school supplies and return them so that members of Council 5004 can fill the backpacks with the appropriately needed school supplies to be distributed to area schools. Council 5004 coordinates this event with local school officials who provide us with a list of school supplies that their particular school needs for their students in need. Each school has its own unique list of supplies needed. Members of Council 5004 will meet after the supplies have been donated and fill each backpack with the appropriate schools supplies for each school we have coordinated with and then distribute the backpacks to the schools.
When our council first started this tradition six years ago, we hoped to fill 50 backpacks. In the first year we were able to fill the 50 backpacks we purchased and also had several extra boxes of donated supplies that we distributed to area schools. Due to the overwhelming generosity of the parishioners of Sacred Hearts Parish, each year we have been able to increase the number of filled backpacks. With this year's target of 175 backpacks we hope to fill three and half times more backpacks than the 50 we filled six years ago.
